How to Satisfy Your Hangover Cravings Without Damaging Your Diet

We’ve all been there. It’s late morning, you’ve just awoken with a horrible feeling in your stomach and your head due to a little too much fun last night. You know what’s coming. You are going to want to eat… a lot. But you don’t want to mess up the diet you’ve been doing so well on before you lost your head in a crazy night of drinking. So what are you to do?

Most of the foods you crave during a hangover will cause you more harm and make you feel worse in the long run. Alcohol causes dehydration and inflammation and high fat and high carbohydrate foods will only make things worse in that aspect. But there are actually foods that will fit very well with your diet that will help alleviate your hangover and the cravings that go along with it.

The Morning After

When that morning after thirst kicks in, grab some coconut water since it contains more electrolytes than sports drinks and a lot less sugar. Coconut water contains the same five electrolytes naturally contained in human blood and has actually been used intravenously for emergency hydration when nothing else was available. Seems like a miracle cure to me!

To help with an upset stomach, peppermint and ginger teas do wonders. You don’t need to drink a Bloody Mary or some other mythical hangover cure. Kombucha, which is a fermented tea that tastes nothing like tea is a new popular drink that will help combat the sick feeling from a hangover because it’s full of good bacteria and yeast that helps to reverse the toxicity in your body caused by all that alcohol.

After the initial roughness has subsided, you’re probably going to want to eat. Choose foods containing plenty of B vitamins, because alcohol sucks vitamins out of you, especially the B’s and C’s. Foods high in B vitamins that will work well with your diet include cantaloupe, dark leafy greens, sunflower seeds, bell peppers, beans and legumes, and chicken breasts.

It’s also a good idea to take one of those fizzy little drink tablets/powders that will enable you to get your B and C vitamins through one drink.

If you’re feeling up to eating out, why not go Asian? Miso soup has been used for decades in Japan to combat hangovers for its hydrating effects and sodium content. Sushi can go right along with it as plate number two. Most sushi will contain avocado or salmon which are high in Omega-3 fatty acids known to help cure hangovers.

The Night Before

If you’re heading out and you know you are going to be drinking a lot, there are some things you can do to combat the after effect of drinking before it even starts. For starters, eat a good meal before you drink at all. This will help prepare your body to combat some of those nasty hangover symptoms before they happen. Make sure you drink more than just alcohol throughout the night. Have a glass of water between drinks to cut down the dehydration from your alcohol consumption.

Of course, the best thing for you to do is not drink so much. The alcohol itself is going to add a huge amount of calories to your diet, but understandably, sometimes these things happen. So if you must drink, use these tips to help control the next day damage to your diet.

La prima cosa che mi ha fatto interessare a Capsiplex è stato il fatto che era tutto naturale e che non c'era nessun effetto collaterale. In realtà funziona. Dopo aver provato per 3 settimane e aver perso 3 chili ho appena ordinato altre 3 bottiglie! Spero che la perdita di peso continui.

- Alice
